On the night of November 12-13, 2019, high water in Venice reached 187 cm, approaching the highest tide levels ever reached, the 194 cm of the 1966 flood. The exceptional peak was that night accompanied by a terrible blizzard and strong wind gusts that caused extensive damage throughout the city.
On the occasion of this anniversary, the video installation “L’antro della sirena” by Giovanni Pellegrini, donated to the Gallery by Ginko Film in collaboration with Unisve, will be presented. Some of these images, filmed in the days immediately following the disaster, also appear in “The City of Sirens” (2020) and “Lagunaria” (2022), films that recount the effect of climate change on the city of Venice and its lagoon.
